Location
Mathry is a village occupying a commanding hilltop position with wonderful views all round just off the main A 487 road, about 8 miles from the cathedral city of St David’s and 6.5 miles from the port of Fishguard.

The village is a living bilingual community, with most houses permanently occupied. Gathered around the village green and the Church of the Holy Martyrs are two working farms, the village school, a tea room, the General Stores and Post Office, a wood turner’s and a diving school, not forgetting the Farmers Arms, a traditional family owned and run pub serving locally sourced and home cooked food.

Nearby, the ancient cromlechs of Carreg Samson and Ffist Samson stand testimony to the antiquity of the landscape along one of Europe’s most spectacular coastlines, while St David’s Cathedral bears witness to a Christian tradition rooted in the Celtic Church. Today, the vitality of Cymraeg - the Welsh language – in everyday life shows the cultural continuity of this area and its people.

About 1.5 miles away is the beautiful inlet and small beach at Abercastle, where it is possible to join the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. There is also the regular “Strumble Shuttle” bus service along the coast which is popular with walkers and other visitors. The route passes through Mathry and Awel y Bryn is situated close to the bus stop on the village green.
